Er... W-well... I suppose that it is funny! [But he looks confused by the remark for a moment while upholding a smile.]
You must have - expected someone else! [He says that with an attempt to produce a self-deprecating laugh. It's odd to realize that things must not have worked out with Zoro, but she must be seeking someone classier or more handsome.
But he knows his goal: he has to do his best to make this as pleasant a 'date' as possible. He just feels more nervous about it than most challenges he's faced. It's like there's an odd singing in his heart as he looks at Weiss, sending a fear throughout his body of messing up.
Slowly, he raises a thumbs up towards her. He speaks shakily, but honestly.]
[ several things happen at once, really. first, there is the distinct feeling that she's done something wrong. the need to better explain herself, to assure him that, well, yes technically that is true, technically she did expect someone else, but not anyone in particular, more that she didn't really expect him, or anyone that she knew, for that matter and—!
well. how does one really go about saying all that, really? so all she manages is a hasty wave of her hands, as if to abolish the thought, and rid himself of that awful self-deprecating laugh. she decides she never wants to hear it from him again.
but then he goes and compliments her, and she's stuck unsure how to respond once more. blushing, of course, because her fair skin just won't let her rest until she's all red today, it seems, and a hasty glance down at her dress. ]
Oh — thank you, I. [ well, no. there's no need to go into detail about how long she toiled away on this decision.
instead she just looks him over, too, and smiles. pleasantly surprised. ]
[Lee may not hear any of those assurances, but the hasty wave of her hands does help him to get some sort of sense of feeling better. Maybe he's not unwelcome here, after all. Especially after the compliment she returns to him.
Handsome. Could he really be handsome? He tugs at his collar a little while his own cheeks start to glow brighter, as if trying to compete in redness with Weiss's own face. The blush actually looks almost natural to Lee, a little color that goes along with her simple beauty.
It might be awkward that he got matched up with a friend, but he still finds himself feeling unusually... pleased. Maybe it's because of how efficient Weiss is - well, and how pretty - she looks more or less like what he would hope for in a date. There seems to be both simplicity and elegance in her beauty.]
Thank you, very much. [He smiles very warmly and then he very quickly does a motion with his head. Was that an exaggerated nod, or a small bow, or maybe he was headbutting some invisible enemy...?
His nerves are returning though. He has to make this absolutely perfect for Weiss. He tries to remember - what is the next step?!]
W-well, if we are to begin... We should be seated!
[She had already picked out a table, but Lee will scamper towards it and pull out her chair for her. He could hear Gai-Sensei in his head cheering him on, and telling him to be the best gentleman that he could be!!]
[ she seems quite surprised by his sudden action, but rather pleasantly so. it seems that flush is there to stay, at least for the duration of this date, because the smile on weiss' face is one of utmost flattery.
she proceeds to take the proffered seat, looking quite pleased, despite the sudden warmth she feels around her cheeks, her neck. ]
Thank you, Lee-san. That's very gentlemanly of you.
[ A TRUE COMPLIMENT FROM WEISS SCHNEE, T B H.
she'll wait, of course, till he's taken his own seat before leaning in slightly, a hand raised to cover one side of her mouth. she whispers, so that only he can hear: ]
I have a bit of a confession to make... [ it's terribly embarrassing, but she thinks, of all people, lee would be the nicest about it. ]
I've... never really been on a date before. I'm afraid I don't know what to do.
[He had tried to study all of the polite things one should do on dates!! Who knows how much he studied here and how much was imparted to him in random lessons from Gai-Sensei over the years.
Lee's own shade of red is here to stay as well. As she takes the seat and compliments him in that way, his heart practically skips a beat at being called 'gentlemanly'. He tilts his head a bit and smiles brightly for a moment before he sets back.]
Th-thank you. I try my best for... a lady.
[He gulps nerously and takes his seat. As she leans forward, he leans forward too with a serious expression. Is it time for a true secret of her youth?!
He gasps lightly as she reveals her secret. Then he leans as much as he can as he responds in a loud whisper, his eyes as wide as can be.]
You have not? Ah... I never thought that was so! [It's her first date ever. He absolutely can't mess it up!
But he finds himself not feeling that much more pressure. He remembers that it's his first 'date' too, and he gives a reassuring smile.]
W-well... This is certainly my first date as well. I can try to recall what I've learned about dates from research... a-and we can work out to what to do as- as a team!
[ she looks on rather excitedly, sitting up a little straighter in her seat. ]
Oh? You did research as well?
[ WHAT NERDS, but weiss definitely is beginning to look a lot less nervous. she doesn't feel so strange, knowing now that someone else has gone to the lengths she has. ]
I read up on all of the books in the library, you know, though unfortunately none of them really went into much detail about blind dates in general. Many seemed to already delve into the aspect of dating, and what to do when one's already in a relationship.
[ she shakes her head a little, starting to ramble now that she's gotten into it oops. ]
It's a little frustrating, don't you think? Of course, I attempted to ask around as well, but. Well. Admittedly it was a little embarrassing for me. Plus, I didn't really want Ruby and Yang to know that I'd signed up for this.
[He nods eagerly, glad to have found someone who also had to put research in. It's surprising that Weiss did not know a lot about this, but it also helps some of the pressure to disappear.]
That's right! I tried to do whatever types of research that I could find! And to remember any 'cool tips' I learned from Gai-Sensei.
But... It is as you said. Most advice pertains to the 'normal' aspect of dating. ...Still, I have confidence! You are a very smart person, Weiss-san. I am sure that we could figure this out!
[And he pauses for a moment as he considers the last detail.]
S-so you signed up in secrecy? Do not worry... I can keep that secret for my entire life!
....that is what happens when I tag as I'm about to get off a train
