Firstly, a helpful list of links on some terminology used in the world of RWBY:
» Remnant
» Dust
» Aura
» Semblance
» Hunters
» Faunus
» Schnee Dust Company
◎ Personality:
White is cold…

They call her “Ice Queen.” Not exactly your kindest term of endearment, but it would be wrong to say it isn’t one of the more accurate. Her character motif aside, Weiss, at least initially, tends to come off as very cold and untouchable. And why wouldn’t she? What with her haughty attitude and prissy tone, and the fact that the default expression on her face when conversing with another person tends to look as if she’d stepped in something unpleasant. She is Weiss Schnee, heiress of the infamous Schnee Dust Company, born and raised in the lap of luxury and prestige. With a background like that, it only makes sense that entitlement comes as natural to her as arrogance.

As if that weren’t enough, she is also sharp, judgmental, and critical. As showcased in her first meeting with Ruby and Blake, Weiss does not hesitate to tear someone down if she sees it fit to. It should be noted that she tends to be the most critical of herself, and given how high the standards she places on herself are, she doesn’t seem to think it unfair to expect the same of everyone else around her. So when someone fails to live up to those expectations? She lets them know, and in the only way she knows how — the hard way.

Cold, too, is the way in which she views some aspects of the world. Her past prejudice of and hatred towards the Faunus stemmed from the hardships created for her childhood through their demonstrations and protests against her family’s company. She alluded to numerous past traumas — the kidnaps and murders of family friends and company board members, the trials of having to deal with the anger of her own father. Knowing only one side of the struggle was enough for her, and so she’d grown up content to hate them all on principle.

…and always yearning…

But it would be wrong to say she is unchangeable. Not long after the reveal of Blake’s, one of her own teammates, status as a Faunus, Weiss was more than willing to put her prejudice behind her and accept Blake for who she was. Though obviously this was not some magical salve to rid Weiss of all her flaws, but it does at least show how much value she puts on her friendships.

It’s pretty clear, after all, that she hasn’t ever really had any growing up. From her quiet confession to Ruby that she had always wanted bunk beds as a child, to the fact that her entire character song is all about struggling with a crippling loneliness, it’s quite clear that, for a very long time, friendships and relationships were things that only happened to everyone else. It’s evident, too, in her otherwise solitary nature, more than used to only doing things by herself and, if she absolutely had to work with another, only networking with those she viewed as pragmatically beneficial.

But while she is used to being alone, it’s also just as clear that her preference would be for the opposite. Despite her initial consternation over her lack of appointment as team leader, and her overall disdain of the motley crew that is Team RWBY, Weiss warms up to it all fairly quickly. She is shown eating lunch with them, engaging in fun activities like food fights with them, and even going so far as to try and crack a joke after a fight. This willingness indicates an almost childlike eagerness to blend in and belong in Weiss that she has probably never been allowed to express before.

…burdened by a royal test.

As a Schnee, always under the public eye and scrutiny, there isn’t a lot that Weiss is allowed. With the family as public figureheads and a constant target for a growing and well-known activist group, there are understandably a lot of pressures involved in bearing the name and symbol like Weiss does. Weiss’ own feelings towards her family and all that they do seem nebulous at best. She doesn’t often speak of them, and when she does, it’s very brief and often vague or superficially. The only time she really divulges any actual personal information in regards to her family was when she admitted to her team, under duress, that her childhood had been tough growing up, but even then she refrained from giving too many details. Even amongst the people employed by her family’s company, Weiss struggles to maintain an air of ease — faking smiles, acting nonchalant, hastily and subtly avoiding conversation with her own father and sister, whom she likely hasn’t seen or spoken to in quite a while.

But the strain of bearing such a name stretches even farther than that. As evidenced by her firm rejection of Jaune’s affections, Weiss has clearly experienced her share of schmoozers, clamoring to get on her good side or win her favor simply because of who she is. She seems utterly convinced that he saw nothing more to her than the perks of her status, indicating she’s had to wade through such social climbers plenty of times before. This, in turn, has made her jaded and wary towards the good will of others, even those whose intentions are pure and unconditional.

Overall, there seems to be a contrast in what Weiss says and does, and what she seems to really feel in regards to her family. Despite wearing the family logo on her back, large enough to clearly be seen and recognized, and despite throwing the family name around to garner her weight and power, and despite even quickly rising up to the company’s defense as evidenced by her first confrontation with Blake, Weiss doesn’t seem to truly want to be associated with it. During the field trip with Professor Oobleck, she had been quick to tell the man that her reasons for becoming a Huntress were to uphold the family legacy and honor. However, later that evening, amongst the comfort and secrecy of her teammates, Weiss quietly admits that “there’s more to it than that.” After all, there is nothing very Schnee about fighting and being a Huntress — maybe that had been the point Oobleck had been trying to make in the first place.

”I’m not perfect. Yet.”

Regardless, there is clearly more to Weiss than the privileged princess that so many see. Despite the little bumps and hiccups along the way, she pushes herself harder than anyone else can on her path of self-improvement, willing and ready to not only do better, but be better.

◎ Powers/Abilities:
SWORDSMANSHIP: Weiss’ main form of combat is through the use of her rapier, Myrtenaster. She has been shown to display great aptitude with the weapon, and has likely studied the skill since she was young, given her zealousness in maintaining and sharpening her abilities.

GYMNASTICS: Apart from swordfighting, Weiss also presents physical prowess in a certain level of gymnastics, dodging and attacking through the use of flips and twirls.

SEMBLANCE: Likewise, Weiss is very competent with the use of her Semblance. Hers come in the form of glyphs (the shape of which tend to mimic the Schnee Dust Company logo, and the symbol found on the back of her bolero), and are typically found in two distinct colors: black and white/light blue, though the actual uses of which have yet to be officially confirmed. Generally the white/light blue glyphs tend to exhibit a ‘repulsion’ effect: it has been used to propel Weiss across distances, making it appear as if she were gliding along the ground; and she has been seen to use them to create ‘platforms’ in mid-air, which she would then get propelled off of. In contrast, the black glyphs seem to have an ‘attraction’ effect instead, holding objects or people in place for a brief period of time, as well as pulling such things towards it. Her glyphs appear to be quite corporeal — she has not only used them as platforms in mid-air, but also as shields.

Recently (though after her current canon point), she has been shown to create yellow glyphs, which take on the shape of a spinning clock face. These “haste” glyphs appear to accelerate and enhance the semblance and abilities of whomever she casts them on.

Weiss usually summons her glyphs with two outstretched fingers (index and middle) from her right hand (her left is her dominant, and holds her sword), though she can create them without. The use of her hand seems to grant her more direction and ease of manipulation. Her glyphs can appear anywhere she’d like, and can be used on both the user and whomever or whatever is within her range.

The versatility of her glyphs do not stop there. She has also been shown to utilize her Semblance in combination with Dust, most notably in the manipulation of the shape of ice that she creates. Of note, she’s encased bullets with ice, created an ice shield around her and her teammates, and also constructed a giant ice sword in battle.

Weiss is one of the few characters in RWBY who makes frequent use of her semblance, displaying an almost second-nature proficiency. In fact, given the frequency and ease with which she uses her Semblance, it is safe to say that she has honed the skill to become practically instinctual by now.

(It should also be noted that in the White trailer (a brief promotional footage that showcases Weiss in combat with a giant suit of armor), there were several other displayed variations and uses of Weiss’ glyph. However, as they have yet to appear within the series itself, I’m refraining from calling them canon just yet.)

AURA: Like other Hunters and Huntresses, Weiss also possesses an Aura. However, it is likely that her expertise with it is quite low, given the fact she mainly focuses on her Semblance and weapon for offense and defense.

TACTICAL: It was not only arrogance that made Weiss believe she would have been a well-suited team leader. During battle, she appears to maintain a calm and level head, going so far as mentally coaching herself at the face of extreme danger. It’s obvious she has gone through years of training; she is very analytical of her battles, knowing when it is the right moment to attack, and when to flee.

(Though it should be noted that Weiss’ skill in tactics seems to only translate to the actual battlefield. In a board game of strategy and tactics, she appears woefully incompetent.)

SINGING: Weiss has been canonically mentioned to sing quite well.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
( 1 ) MYRTENASTER: a “Multi-Action Dust Rapier.” All characters in the RWBY-verse that attend schooling to become Hunters and Huntresses forge their own weapons. Weiss’ is unique in that it is (thus far) the only weapon shown in the canon that does not have multiple transformations. In fact, it remains a fairly standard-looking silver rapier throughout its usage. Within its hand guard is a revolving chamber of various Dust vails. With this chamber, Weiss utilizes the Dust in her attacks, causing the Dust to exit through an exhaust port on her sword, which she can then manipulate and direct with her blade. Myrtenaster enables the use of six colored Dust; typically, Weiss employs the colors red, cyan, violet, yellow, white, and blue, though the chambers have also been seen to house green and black. Of the different colors of dust, only two are really “confirmed” in Weiss’ usage of them: red enables fire and cyan creates ice.

( 6 ) DUST REFILLS: a total of six dust vail refills will be found in Weiss’ place of residence, along with the refills she keeps on her person.

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: fire | despite the frequent ice associations in canon, Weiss’ personality is more reminiscent of a blazing fire (her hotheadedness and brief bouts of devious passion come to mind) than the otherwise calming water.
◎ Sense: sight | as an heiress to a prominent family business, it would make sense that appearances and perception are very important to Weiss. She places quite a lot of emphasis on keeping up such appearances, especially in regards to upholding and maintaining dignity in regards to the Schnee name.
◎ Seven Character Traits:
( + ) loyal, hard-working, perseverance
( - ) judgmental, stern, critical
( +/- ) confident
